Program Details:

Complete program details are available at http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Students-Etudiants/PG-CS/CGSM-BESCM_eng.asp. Please consult the program description to verify the eligibility of the applicant, program of study, and field of research.  If you are unclear on the subject matter classification for your research, please send an abstract of your proposal, including your specific aims, to cgallant@upei.ca, and it will be distributed for review.

Instructions for the application process and the Common CV template are available at http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/ResearchPortal-PortailDeRecherche/Instructions-Instructions/index_eng.asp.

*Please note: the granting agencies (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) acknowledge that the widespread disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic may hinder the ability of some institutions to provide applicants with official and up-to-date transcripts in advance of the deadline date, particularly at institutions which do not currently provide official electronic versions of these documents. Therefore, for the fall 2020 scholarships and fellowships competitions, the agencies will accept unofficial transcripts if official transcripts cannot be obtained.*

 Allocations:

UPEI has been provided with an allocation of CGS Master’s awards for the 2020 competition as follows:

CIHR: 1 award
NSERC: 3 awards
SSHRC: 3 awards

Allocations for other institutions can be found here: https://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Students-Etudiants/CGSAllocations-QuotasBESC_eng.asp

Submission and acceptance process:

1) Applicants will complete and submit an application using the Research Portal.

Application Deadline: December 1, 2020

Applicants can select up to three institutions where they intend to hold the award.

2) UPEI internal adjudication committee(s) will review applications submitted to UPEI to select candidates to receive the awards (December through March).

3) Offers of awards will be made using the Research Portal.

Results announced: beginning April 1, 2021

Applicants will have 21 days from the date of each offer of award to accept or decline. Please note the following:

  • A student may only accept one CGS M offer.  If an offer of award is accepted, the system will automatically set all other offers and Alternate statuses to Declined. The status of offers not accepted or declined within the 21 days will also automatically be set to Declined.
  • It is the responsibility of the applicant to regularly verify the Research Portal for results of the competition.
  • Awards must be held at the institution where the offer of award originates.
