Thought of moving some of your teaching online but don't know where to start?
We've planned two, half days over the break to introduce you to some of the
possibilities. Faculty from around campus have been invited to show you
what they are doing online. There will also be support staff to give you a
sense of what services you can use to help you get started.
The sessions will take place from 1:00-4:30 pm on February 19 and 9:00 am-12:30 pm on the morning of February 20. The workshops will be held in
McDougall Hall 328 with light refreshments provided.
There is no cost for the sessions, but faculty are invited to register
with the Centre for Life-Long Learning via email Lisa Mackinnon-Laybolt at:
lmmackinnon@upei.ca
We also want to make it clear that the session is divided in two parts and
are both meant to be attended.

Respiratory Protection Training will be offered on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. The session will provide information regarding the care, selection, and use of respirators. Whether you currently have a respirator or if you think you may need one for certain work tasks, then you should attend this session (every second year). This is also an important educational opportunity for those who supervise work involving individuals who may need respiratory protection. For more information or to register, please contact Lacey Myers at 566-0605 or ljmyers@upei.ca. Deadline to register is Thursday, February 14, 2013.

International Specialization Dinner (scheduled for this Saturday, February
9, 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the Jack Blanchard Family Centre) has been

Armed with a SCENT travel grant, I attended the annual conference of the
National Center for Case Study Teaching in Science. Now it’s time to bring
others into the paradigm of using cases – student-centered stories,
educational messages, problems, real world messages, dilemmas – to engage
students so they connect new knowledge to old, hone their decision-making
skills, and acknowledge other perspectives. Let’s discuss the whys and
hows, barriers and solutions to using cases in teaching.
We hope to see you there! Questions? Email Gerald at the FDO: gwandio@upei.ca
