CVMA Convention Reception
Dr. Dan Hurnik, Interim Dean of AVC, will be hosting a reception for alumni and friends of AVC during the 2014 Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Conference in St. John's Newfoundland and Labrador. Please join him in the Brownsdale Room at the Delta St. John's Hotel on Thursday, July 10 from 7-9 pm for an opportunity to greet former classmates, get caught up on AVC news, and share some fine food. Public Presentation by Dr. Shannon Murray
Join Dr. Shannon Murray, candidate for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Arts, for a public presentation on Wednesday, July 16 at 2:30 pm.
Dr. Murray is currently a faculty member in the Department of English. Dr. Murray will make a public presentation in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium (room 242), Don and Marion McDougall Hall. All faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend. The topic of her talk will be "Challenges and opportunities facing the Faculty of Arts in the next five years."

Seminar: Application of Oceanography in Fish Health Research
Dr. Ian Gardner, Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Aquatic Epidemiology, and a team of AVC researchers will be hosting Dr.'s Fred Page and Jon Grant during the week of July 21st. To make the best of this visit we have organized a morning of short talks on how oceanographic tools can be applied to research on fish health. Both researchers from the CERC group and Drs Page and Grant will present their work in this area.
Dr. Fred Page is the Head of the Coastal Oceanography Section (COS) at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) St Andrews Biological Station (SABS) and a member of the SABS Management Team. Over the past 20+ years with DFO, Dr. Page's team has developed several ocean models for the East Coast of Canada.
Dr. Jon Grant is the NSERC-Cooke Industrial Research Chair in Sustainable Aquaculture at the University of Dalhousie. Dr. Grant is involved in ecosystem-based research and provides expertise to grow a sustainable aquaculture sector in Nova Scotia.
Everyone is invited to join us on Tuesday July 22nd from 8:30 - 10:30 (Lecture Theatre B). Coffee will be provided after the talks.
Seminar by Dr. Galina Hayes
Dr. Galina Hayes will be on-campus next week interviewing for the open, tenure-track faculty position in small animal surgery in the Department of Companion Animals at the Atlantic Veterinary College. Dr. Hayes is board-certified in both small animal surgery and small animal emergency and critical care, and also has a PhD in clinical epidemiology from the University of Guelph.
As a part of the interview process, Dr. Hayes will present a seminar entitled "Illness Severity Scores -- What are they and why do we need them?" on Monday, July 14 at 8:30 am in the AVC Lecture Theatre A.
