Family reunion: Aiden Rainford joins sister in women’s basketball championship pursuit

Fans of UPEI Women’s Basketball will get used to hearing the name “Rainford” more often this fall because they’ll be getting a double dose. The Panthers scored a slam dunk this off-season by recruiting Aiden Rainford, the older sister of AUS all-star Lauren Rainford.

Rainford, who will study psychology, brings a wealth of experience to UPEI. The 23-year-old was a member of Canada’s under-16 and under-17 national teams, where she gained extensive knowledge from some of the world’s best coaches.

Father knows best: AVC grad takes unexpected path to PEI

When Dr. Andrew Cohen, doctor of veterinary medicine graduate, started applying for veterinary schools, the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island wasn’t even on the list.

“I originally applied for seven schools, none of which were AVC,” explains Cohen. “After sharing the list with my father, he felt like the number seven was unlucky, and I had to add an eighth.”

"The BIS program provides an excellent opportunity for students who have work and life experience."

What brought you to UPEI? In other words, why did you choose to study here?

I’ve lived all my life on PEI, so UPEI was very high on my list of options. I checked out similar degree programs at universities and colleges from Ontario to Newfoundland and Labrador and found that the structure of UPEI’s Bachelor of Integrated Studies pathway suited my needs the best. There were a variety of online courses and other hybrid classes that I could take, so I only had to be on campus on weekends to write exams, which was perfect for me.
