The University of Prince Edward Island is working towards establishing a Faculty of Medicine to house a joint Doctor of Medicine degree in partnership with the Memorial University of Newfoundland.
While the joint program is being developed, the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is partnering with Memorial University as a regional campus of Memorial offering a Doctor of Medicine degree.
Under this partnership, applicants will apply to the Doctor of Medicine degree at Memorial University. Accepted students will begin their studies in August 2025 at the UPEI Campus.

How do I apply for the Doctor of Medicine degree at UPEI?
Applicants interested in applying to the Memorial University Faculty of Medicine, the regional campus at UPEI, must complete the online application on the Memorial University admissions page and apply to the Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) Pool. The application system will be open from Wednesday, June 26, 2024, to Wednesday, August 28, 2024, inclusive. Applications can only be submitted within this time frame.
Who can apply? Are all seats reserved for PEI residents?
There will be 20 seats available, and applicants must satisfy the P.E.I. Residency Definition, as defined on the PEI Resident Definition. At least one (1) seat is reserved for an Indigenous student.
Can I transfer to the medical program at Memorial University after being accepted to the joint UPEI-MUN program?
No. If you accept a seat in the UPEI Campus, Memorial University program, you cannot transfer to the St. John’s Memorial Campus.
