Certificate of Insurance
A Certificate of Insurance (“COI”) provides written evidence of the levels of insurance that an organization carries.
External Certificate of Insurance
Where required by contract or by request of the Contracts and Insurance Office, third parties (i.e., contractors, subcontractors, service providers, tenants) will be requested to submit a COI to the University to demonstrate compliance with either the insurance requirements specified in contracts or agreements or requirements of the Office.

Other types of insurance or a higher insurance limit may be required depending on the activity and risk involved. Please contact the Contracts and Insurance Office for advice on types of insurance and required limits.
University Certificate of Insurance
Departments and faculties may be requested to provide a COI to external parties in relation to University agreements, activities or off-campus events, etc.
Request Process
If you receive a request by an external party to be provided a University COI, please submit your request at least five days before required by submitting the COI Request Form to insurance@upei.ca. If the COI Request is in relation to an Agreement, Proposal, or other documents, please include the relevant documents with your COI Request Form submission.
The Contracts and Insurance Office will process your COI Request Form and forward it back to you upon issuance from our insurer. The requestor will be responsible for forwarding the COI to the appropriate external party contact.
COI Time Period Restrictions
At present, COIs can only be provided for the current calendar year but can be renewed for subsequent years upon request. COIs cannot be issued for future calendar years until close to the end of the current calendar year. If you require a COI that extends beyond December 31 of the current year, please indicate in your COI Request Form submission.
