Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week for January 20–26, 2025, are Lauren Rainford (women’s basketball) and Kyree Thompson (men’s basketball).

UPEI has issued its annual call for nominations of candidates for honorary degrees to be conferred at Convocation in May 2025. The deadline to submit a nomination is Monday, February 17, 2025, by 11:59 pm.

The UPEI Department of Athletics and Recreation is excited to announce that the 2023 Canada Games Legacy Fund has approved funding for essential track and field equipment upgrades at UPEI Alumni Canada Games Place. The funding will be used to acquire state-of-the-art apparatus such as starter blocks, timing equipment, throwing cage upgrades, and self-contained storage units.

In a message to faculty and staff, UPEI expressed condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Tim Goddard, Professor Emeritus, who passed away on January 23, 2025.

Members of the MacLauchlan family and the UPEI campus community celebrated the achievements of students, faculty, and staff at the 13th annual MacLauchlan Prizes for Effective Writing on Tuesday, January 21, in Schurman Market Square, Don and Marion McDougall Hall. The event recognizes writing excellence or leadership in the development of writing among UPEI students, staff, and faculty.

The Province of Prince Edward Island has announced new screentime guidelines to help encourage healthy screen use behaviours in Island schools.

UPEI is committed to developing a new Harassment and Discrimination Policy and a revised Sexual Violence Policy, and has announced that the Review Committee has been struck.

UPEI’s 2024 Giving Tuesday campaign was an unprecedented success, raising a total of $44,010 from 54 extremely generous donors on the Global Day of Philanthropy. An anonymous donor pledged to match Giving Tuesday donations up to $20,000, making it by far the largest year yet for UPEI. The donations will be dedicated to the University’s $15-million Robertson Library Revitalization campaign.

The UPEI Hockey and Basketball Panthers are looking forward to a week of competition at home and away. Before the weekend games begin, UPEI international students will also have the opportunity to connect with the UPEI Hockey Panthers to learn more about the game through several activities.
