The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island is proud to congratulate two teams of doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) students, and one graduate student who brought home awards at the recent American Veterinary Medical Association’s (AVMA) Animal Welfare Assessment Contest.

Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for January 9–15 are Sarah Forsythe (women’s hockey) and Kurtis Henry (men’s hockey).

| Atlantic Veterinary College

The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) is pleased to announce that they will be hosting the AVC Summer Academy from July 4 to 7, 2023. This marks the first year that the Academy will be offered since the COVID-19 pandemic.

| Events

The Institute of Island Studies at UPEI will host a public lecture titled “Towards Energy Sovereignty on Labrador’s Remote Island of Ponds” on January 24 at 7 pm in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building. 

| Athletics

The 2023 Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) Winter World University Games is underway, and two UPEI Panthers, TJ Shea and Matt Brassard, are among 22 student-athletes representing Team Canada. UPEI forward Kyle Maksimovich was also selected to play but could not attend due to a recent injury.

The Atlantic Veterinary College is now accepting nominations for the Atlantic Award of Excellence in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Care.

UPEI Athletics and Recreation will host the sixteenth annual Shoot for the Cure fundraiser on Thursday, January 26, when the Women’s Basketball Panthers take on the University of New Brunswick Reds at 6 pm on their home court. The event was originally scheduled for January 13, but had to be postponed due to weather conditions.

The UPEI Panthers have a full schedule of hockey and basketball during the week of January 9–15.
