Sarah Forsythe and Kurtis Henry named UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for January 9–15 are Sarah Forsythe (women’s hockey) and Kurtis Henry (men’s hockey).
A science student from Riverview, New Brunswick, Forsythe continued to be a steady force between the pipes as she allowed just one goal over two weekend games. The sophomore goalie recorded 28 saves in Friday's 3-1 win over Saint Mary's University and then followed that up with a shutout against Dalhousie University the next night.
“Sarah was really good this weekend,” said head coach Sean Fisher. “She competed hard for pucks, was challenging shooters, and looked really sharp in her play and habits. The team played confidently in front of her, and I know they were excited for her.”
Henry, a UPEI men’s hockey defenceman and a second-year arts student from Garden River First Nations, Ontario, continues to be a reliable defender along the blueline and is enjoying a breakout season. He recorded an assist in Wednesday’s 3-2 overtime loss to Saint Mary’s University and notched his third goal of the season in a 4-2 loss against Acadia University on Saturday.
“Kurtis had a good week for us and has had a terrific season,” said head coach Forbes MacPherson. “He has taken his game to another level and continues to be a reliable defenceman who is hard to play against. As a sophomore, he’s also showing significant leadership qualities.”
