Members of the campus community are invited to attend two presentations on September 30 by Dr. Barry Smit, SSHRC Gold Medal winner for 2013 and international leader in research on the human impacts of climate change. Although Dr. Smit’s research area is within the social sciences, the advice and information that he will present will be applicable to any discipline. In two interactive sessions, Dr. Smit will share his expertise on the following topics:
1) Leading and Managing Interdisciplinary Teams - 11:00 am-12:00 pm in Main Building's Faculty Lounge
2) Securing Research Funding & Preparing Effective Grant Applications - 3:00-4:00 pm in Main Building's Faculty Lounge, followed by a “mix and mingle” session and refreshments from 4:00-5:00 pm.
All are welcome, but in order to assist with planning, please RSVP by September 24 to Rita Stanley at rstanley@upei.ca indicating the session(s) that you will attend. For questions or further information, please contact Leslie Cudmore.

On Saturday, October 4 UPEI Faculty of Arts will be hosting the seventh annual conference of the Atlantic Mediaeval Association. This year’s keynote speaker will be Judith E. Dietz (Associate Curator of Historical European Art, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia) who will speak on “The History and Significance of the Salzinnes Antiphonal,” a sixteenth-century illuminated manuscript now in possession of St. Mary’s University.
Registration is $15 (and includes lunch) and is payable at the door. All conference sessions will be held in Room 213, Main Building.

UPEI Recreation presents Cardio & Cycle, a six-week program that will increase muscular and cardiovascular strength, enabling you to be a powerful climber. The class will also challenge your aerobic base through interval sprints and maximum speed. The program begins October 15-November 19, Wednesday group classes from 5:00-5:45 pm with Instructor Tracey Gairns-Brioux. So get ready to ride steadily and consistently with heavy resistance!
Fees: Members $51 + HST; Non-members $60 + HST; drop-in visit $12 + HST. To register, visit the Panther Central desk.
UPEI Athletics and Recreation is offering an additional 15 % savings for UPEI employees who currently receive a 20 % discount on a fitness membership at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. This means a cost of a one-year (adult) membership= $306 plus HST, and a one-year family membership = $612 plus HST. UPEI's Department of Student Affairs in conjunction with Facilities Management will be conducting an independent review of the physical accessibility of the campus buildings. These inspections will be conducted over the next three weeks by members of Access Advisor. Buildings will be examined and verified for accessibility levels and rated by the following designations;
Full Mobile Accesible:
Business/facility is accessible to persons requiring the use of a wheelchair or other mobility assistive device.
Partially Accessible:
Facility is partially accessible to persons with varied levels of disability including difficulty with mobility, reflexes, and strength.
This will ensure that all students, staff, faculty, and visitors can comfortably identify the accessibility levels of each facility.
