"Desserts and a Difference," this year's keynote event for the 2015 International Development Week celebrations is postponed until further notice.

Ori Elad, Department of Pathology and Microbiology will present a seminar called "Nutritional epigenetic characterization of chicken B cell receptors and Alyssa Grunwald, Department of Biomedical Sciences will present a seminar called "Discovery of tetramic acid containing compounds from two Tolypocladium sp. isolated from Frobisher Bay" on Tuesday, February 10 at 3:00 pm in AVC Lecture Theatre C. Everyone is welcome to attend.
UPEI Athletics and Recreation will host three home games this weekend: UPEI Women's basketball team VS Acadia at 6:00 pm in the UPEI Sports Centre UPEI Men’s hockey team VS UNB at 7:00 pm at the MacLauchlan Arena in the CARI Complex UPEI Men's basketball team VS Acadia at 8:00 pm in the Sports Centre In support of UPEI's International Development Week, each game will feature multicultural music and entertainment! The Women's basketball team will be raising money for the eighth annual "Shoot for the Cure" fundraiser. The Men's and Women's hockey teams are showing their support once again by hosting “Pink at the Rink.” Shoot for the Cure is a fundraising initiative by the CIS Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) and other related charities. The campaign goal is $6,000. Staff and faculty can support the women’s basketball team by purchasing a Shoot for the Cure t-shirt ($12) at Panther Central or the UPEI Bookstore, a paper icon ($1) from Panther Central, or through the “Gofund” donation page at: http://www.gofundme.com/k3xv14.
The Canadian Red Cross will host the final presentation titled "Restoring Family Links" in the Brown Bag Lunch Series on Friday, February 6 at 11:30 am in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building. The Canadian Red Cross Restoring Family Links program helps people in Canada re-establish contact with immediate family members after separation due to armed conflict, natural disaster, migration and other humanitarian crises. Light refreshments will be provided, and a door prize will be given out to one lucky attendee. For a full schedule of IDW events, visit upei.ca/idw.

"Desserts and a Difference," will be this year's keynote event for the 2015 International Development Week celebrations! Dr. Timothy Goddard will present this year’s keynote presentation, entitled “The quest for Buen Vivir: For whom are we making a difference, and why?” which will reflect on the idea of international development and examine some of the ways in which local communities can assume agency for their own future. The presentation will be followed by a dessert reception, featuring instrumental music from UPEI International student, Jacob Liu, and a door prize draw! Dr. Johanna Wolf, Associate Professor for the School of Environment and Sustainability at Royal Roads University, British Columbia, is a candidate for UPEI's new Canada Research Chair in Sustainability, Resilience, and Island Contexts. Dr. Wolf will make two presentations, both of which will be open to the campus and research communities. A general presentation, entitled “Better off or Worse for Wear: Sustainability and Resilience Through Climate Adaptation," will take place on February 9, 10:30–11:30 am in AVC Lecture Theatre A. A technical presentation, entitled “Connect, Collaborate, Co-produce: Shaping Climate Change Adaptation to Foster Island Resilience and Sustainability," will take place on February 10, 2:00–3:00 pm, in AVC Lecture Theatre A. Murphy Student Centre. The presentation is titled "Opportunities to be a Global Village," and will explore the role of international development and international development organizations within Canadian contexts and how students can become involved locally. Shoot for the Cure is a fundraising initiative by the CIS Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) and other related charities. The campaign goal is $6,000. The "UPEI Students Make a Difference," Brown Bag Lunch Series session, featuring Jayoda Tennekone and Rhyanne Beatty, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, February 10 at 11:30 am in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building. A search committee for the Dean of Nursing has been established. Dr. Rosemary Herbert has expressed a willingness to extend her term as Dean for an additional three years, as per UPEI policy. Therefore, the Search Committee is charged with carrying out a review and making a recommendation regarding her reappointment. In order to carry out that review effectively, the Committee will be seeking input from members of the University community. In particular, we would like you to provide us with advice with respect to Dr. Herbert's reappointment in three main areas: (1) her leadership, (2) her strengths as a Dean, and (3) areas for possible improvement.
