On Wednesday, March 22 at 12:00 pm a Menopause walk and talk presentation is open to anyone at no cost. A short presentation (approx 20 min) at Sports Centre Rm. 212, followed by a 20 minute walk around the indoor track to walk and talk about menopause and how to get through it. No pre-registration required. Just show up with your sneakers!

The Robertson Library is offering a presentation, with hands-on time, on Wednesday, March 22 at 12:30 pm in the LINC classroom in the Library. If you or your students use Google Scholar, this is a great chance to learn some useful time-saving tips! Dr. Sarah Gallagher, an associate professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Western Ontario, will be at UPEI as part of the 2017 Canadian Association of Physicists Lecture Tour. Her talk, “The Biggest Blowhards: Windy Supermassive Black Holes,” is Wednesday, March 22 at 4:30 pm in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium, room 242 of UPEI’s Don and Marion McDougall Hall. All are welcome.

There will be a blood borne pathogen training session Tuesday April 11, 2017 3:00-4:30 p.m. (location to be determined)

This session is for those people whose research involves HUMAN blood, tissue, and other bodily fluids. Vagabond Productions presents Dead Man’s Cell Phone March 22-25.

Would you answer a stranger’s cell phone? Well, Jean does, and so begins Dead Man’s Cell Phone, by Sarah Ruhl. The play is a funny take on relationships in the digital age. Jean’s decision to answer the phone is complicated because its owner is dead. This simple action draws Jean into Gordon’s world, taking her places she never expected.

The play runs March 22 to March 25, 2017, in the Faculty Lounge, in the Main Building. The doors open at 7:00 for a 7:30 pm start. Admission: pay what you can. The play contains adult language, so it may not be appropriate for younger audiences.

Dr. Geniece Hallett-Tapley, St. Francis Xavier University, will present a seminar on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 12:30 pm. Dr. Hallett-Tapley's presentation is entitled "Exploiting the Photocatalytic Activity of Nanoparticle-Niobium Oxide Perovskite Hybrids in Light-Mediated Catalysis".  The seminar will be held in the Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre, Lecture Theatre, Room 212.

UPEI’s History Department invites students, faculty and staff to check out the student poster presentations on the history of the devil and the history of plague. Posters will be on display in McMillan Hall and students will be there to discuss them.  

The presentation will be mounted Wednesday March 22 from 3:00 to 4:15 pm in the Murphy Student Centre

In recognition of the outstanding performance and dedication of our faculty and staff, a number of annual awards have been created to acknowledge their efforts and achievements.

Up to 10 Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Faculty, Librarians and Clinical Veterinary Professionals and four Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Staff will be awarded in 2017. These awards will be presented during a Celebration of Colleagues to be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 date changed to Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre.

Susan Connolly, Associate Vice-President, Human Resources & Legal, will lead the process and chair the committee to select award recipients.

Dr. Alex Alvarez, School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, will give a presentatio, Martingales In Financial Mathematics, on Monday, March 20 from 3:00 to 3:50 pm in MCDH Rm. 246.

Abstract:
In the early 1970s Black, Scholes and Merton made a groundbreaking contribution to the financial world by providing a formula for the pricing of certain class of financial derivatives called options. Since that time, new financial products have become increasingly complex. In this talk we will see how advanced mathematical tools, and in particular the notion of martingale, have been at the center of many developments in the field of quantitative finance during the last few decades.

Dr. Wallace Lockhart, candidate for a tenure track accounting position with the Faculty of Business, will present a public presentation on the "Foundations for Student Success" Monday, March 20 at 9:00 am in the Don and Marion McDougall Hall, Rm. 329. The Wellness Yoga that takes place on Tuesdays from 12:05 pm - 12:50 pm will change locations on Tuesday, March 21 to the Fitness Studio #2, Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. On March 28, the class will return to the Chaplaincy Centre. This class is a weekly class for UPEI Students, staff and faculty and takes place weekly for the full calendar year.

The Master's of Nursing Program Graduate Studies Committee would like to invite the campus community to Valerie Abd-El-Aziz' public presentation of her master's thesis entitled "Fear of Falling, Physical Activity Volume, and Stage of Motivational Readiness to Change Physical Activity Behaviour of Adults in Late Midlife".
