The challenges of modern life seem constant and at times overwhelming. In this respect, it is not surprising that so much attention has recently been devoted to resilience, namely how we deal with life’s adversities, learn from them and even grow alongside or in the face of them.  The purpose of this presentation is to start a dialogue about resilience in a holistic way, a dialogue that considers not only our own resources as individuals, but also the importance of developing relationships and workplaces that foster health and well-being. Presentation will be lead by Dr. Stephen Butler.

Session will be held on Wednesday, November 27 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Andrews Hall, Room #142.  Please email Angela Marchbank to register. Session provided by the Healthy Campus Committee.

We are hosting an additional Flu Clinic by Public Health Nursing on December 11th from 1:00-5:00 pm for those who missed earlier clinics. There is no cost for the flu shot; you need to produce your health number or international insurance number.  No need for appointments - the clinic is walk-in only. Drop by anytime between 1:00 pm and 5;00 pm December 11th to get your flu shot. The clinic will be held at the UPEI Health & Wellness Centre, 2nd floor of the Murphy Building (North end).

All students, faculty, staff, and families welcome!

Faculty of Education is bringing you a teaching presentation titled Outcome-based Course Design by Michelle Gough. Everyone is welcome to join.

In this presentation, we will explore outcome-based design as outlined in Teaching At Its Best: A Research-Based Resource for College Instructors by Linda B. Nilson. The presentation will focus on how instructors can design their courses around what they want students to be able to do by the end of the course. The presentation will critique the research supporting the benefits of outcomes-centered course design, writing outcomes, types of outcomes, sequencing outcomes into a learning process, helpful frameworks for designing a course, showing students their learning process and outcomes-centered course development.

The Faculty of Nursing invites members of the campus community; students, faculty and staff to attend a public presentation by T. Diane Campbell RN, PhD candidate for a tenure track position. Her public presentation on Linking Teaching, Learning and Research at the UPEI Faculty of Nursing will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 in the Health Science Building, room 104 at 11:00 am.

Please join us on November 26th from 11:30-12:30 in the Main Building Faculty Lounge for a Brown-Bag Lunch entitled "A Discussion of Paul Hanstedt's Creating Wicked Students":

In Creating Wicked Students: Designing Courses for a Complex World, Paul Hanstedt argues that to prepare students for the "knotty" and shifting problems they will face in the world, we should design university curriculum to recognize, value, and account for these complexities. In this brown-bag lunch, Shannon Murray will outline the principles of this challenging book, and discussion will focus on implications for programs, courses, assignments, and teaching methods. For an excerpt from the book, go to

November is Diabetes Awareness Month; almost 900 people will be diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus on PEI this year.  There are more than 15,000 Islanders living with Diabetes now.  Diabetes is a chronic condition that results from the body’s inability to produce and/or use insulin sufficiently.  In the absence of insulin or sufficient amounts of insulin, blood glucose levels rise and if left can lead to serious health issues.

The UPEI Health and Wellness Centre has partnered with the Provincial Diabetes Program and is offering free glucose checks on November 22 from 09:00-11:30 am at the UPEI Health and Wellness Centre. Come and have a risk assessment completed.
