The deadline for Animal Care Protocol Submissions (new, renewal, or amendment) is Friday, May 7th for the May meeting.

Please note that as of June 1, 2020 all animal user protocols must be submitted through UPEI Researcher Portal at https://upei.researchservicesoffice.com/Romeo.Researcher/

For new protocols select ‘applications’ and for renewal or amendment protocols select ‘events’.

To view any UPEI ACC SOPs and Codes of Practice, they can be accessed through myUPEI at https://portal.upei.ca/facultystaff/administrativeservices/AVCAnimalCare/Pages/default.aspx

Those protocols received after the deadline will be reviewed the following month.  The Committee requires at least one month for processing applications.

A note from The Canadian Council on Animal Care:

The Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) recently published the CCAC Strategic Plan 2021-2026. In order to achieve the four identified goals, the CCAC is developing an expanded implementation plan with the objective to improve communication, engagement, and feedback. We would like to hear from you, our primary stakeholders, about how you believe we are meeting our communication goals, and how we could improve our tools and activities.

We have put together a brief survey and ask that you please take a few moments to share your ideas and opinions. This confidential survey is expected take less than five minutes to complete and should be submitted no later than April 30, 2021. All responses are completely anonymous.

Based on feedback from a survey in 2018, the CCAC has been working on reorganizing its website to ensure it is user friendly and intuitive. If you are interested in participating in a focus group to test the new website design, please contact us directly at ccac@ccac.ca.

The deadline for Spring/Summer 2021 Tuition Waivers is April 29, 2021.  We encourage you to have tuition waivers submitted as soon as possible to assist in the timely processing. Tuition Waiver forms must be submitted electronically.

UPEI fiscal year ends on April 30, 2021.

Purchasing Cut-Off: April 21, 2021

The last day to create a requisition/purchase order for 2020-21 will be on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at noon with guaranteed delivery date on or before April 30, 2021. Requisitions/purchase orders created after April 22, 2021 must have a requisition date changed to May 1, 2021 and the good and services must be delivered on or after May 1, 2021.

Just a reminder that the Vice-Presidents continue to only approve items that are essential purchases. This includes goods purchased by all approved UPEI procurement methods (PO, corporate credit card, Staples Advantage, etc).

Receiving Goods/Services Cut-Off: April 30, 2021

Goods and Services must be received on campus by Friday, April 30, 2021. Only the goods that have been physically received or completed services should be accepted at this time. This will ensure that these goods and services are paid in the 2020-21 fiscal year.  Any items received in myUPEI after April 30, 2021 will be considered new fiscal year goods and services and will then be deducted from your new fiscal year budget (2021-22).

All departments are required to look at their outstanding purchase order list to see if there are any purchase orders that need to be cancelled. This functionality can be accessed through the myUPEI Self-Service Menu under "Financial Information" and the “Receive Goods and Services” selection.

If the items have been back-ordered for some time you will need to check with the supplier to see if they are still on their records as back ordered.  If they are not back-ordered,then please email procurement@upei.ca to cancel your purchase order.

If you are in receipt of vendor invoices, forward these to invoices@upei.ca ASAP. Please contact apadmin@upei.ca with questions or concerns regarding billing and invoicing.

UPEI Procurement Services is currently taking bids on some used boats. Items for sale are one 2001 Prince craft 14' Aluminum Boat  and one 2004 J1450 Carolina Skiff with 20HP Mercury Motor

Bids are being accepted in the University's e-tendering portal Bonfire until April 13th at 2:00pm.  This portal requires you to register by creating a username and password as your UPEI credentials are not connected to this system. In recognition of the legacy of healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, CIBC has invested $500,000 over two academic years (2020/2021 and 2021/2022) in the education of tomorrow’s healthcare professionals. The CIBC Future Heroes Bursary Program will inspire and support the next generation in their ambition of having a career in healthcare. Each bursary will be valued at $2,500 CAD and is available for a one-year award.

Three bursaries will be available to full-time UPEI students entering into their first year of the first degree in a relevant health program ex: Health Sciences, Nursing, Paramedic Care, etc. in the 2021/2022 academic year. Students must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents; have a minimum cumulative average of 70% (or equivalent) over the last three terms of available marks.

The application must be submitted no later than 1:00 PM EST, May 12, 2021. Supporting documentation must be received by 1:00 PM May 26, 2021.

Recipients will be required to complete the online bursary acceptance process and forward any required documentation such as proof of registration.

The Healthy Campus Committee, as part of the Employee Wellness Strategy, will be providing Yoga & Fascial Release Classes for UPEI Faculty and Staff. Brenda Dowel, yoga teacher E-RYT-1000 and Licensed Holistic Practitioner will lead the four-part series of 90-minute classes with a focused approach.

          1) Back & Core:   Wednesdays 10:00 am - 11:30 am, April 7, 14 and 21  

          2) Hips & Glutes:  Wednesdays 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm, April 7, 14 and 21 

Two different sets of classes with an Anatomical Focus.   This series will include a comprehensive approach to the entire body while focusing on a particular area for optimal health and vitality.  

  •  Grounding; Psoas Release; Centering 
  •  Stretching what is tight and strengthening what is weak
  •  Fascial Stretching and Myofascial Releases, Yoga & Conditioning Movements
  •  Fluid and static movements for the Fascia/Connective Tissue
  •  Recognizing and addressing unhealthy movement patterns
  •  Relaxation and Integration

The free programming is offered to UPEI staff and faculty only on a first registration basis.
