Please note that as of June 1, 2020, all animal user protocols must be submitted through the UPEI Researcher Portal. For new protocols, select "applications," and for renewal or amendment protocols, select "events."
UPEI ACC SOPs and codes of oractice can be accessed through myUPEI at https://portal.upei.ca/facultystaff/administrativeservices/AVCAnimalCare/Pages/default.aspx.
Those protocols received after the deadline will be reviewed the following month. The committee requires at least one month for processing applications.

The new UPEI ChangeMakers volunteer program is offering an upcoming virtual session on board governance for program members.
Tuesday, February 15, 1:30--3:30 pm (AST)
This session will teach participants about:
• board role and constitution
• how to join a board of directors
• diversity and board composition
• best practices including board relationship with management, financial literacy, reporting and accountability, and more.
Students must sign up for the UPEI ChangeMakers program to get an invitation to this exclusive event. The program connects students with volunteer opportunities and gets them access to events like this!
Ethics protocols that involve "more than minimal risk" must be reviewed by the full UPEI Research Ethics Board (REB). The next deadline for submitting these protocols is Friday, February 25, 2022.
Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve "more than minimal risk," renewals, and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received.
All research compliance applications, including Research Ethics Board application forms, must be submitted through the Researcher Portal. This online system is paired with electronic approvals to replace the hard-copy signatures process.

The next deadline for submitting biosafety applications including new applications, renewals, and/or amendments is Friday, February 25, 2022. These applications will be reviewed at the March 2022 meeting.
Please note that the IBC has instituted a new category of protocol amendment: Biosafety Permit Minor Amendment. This event form is included in the Researcher Portal.
Minor amendments which are strictly limited to changes in personnel and/or funding can be submitted at any time but require up to a two-week review period. They are normally reviewed by the IBC Chair or designate, the BSO or designate, and one other voting member of the IBC. If the amendment is approved, then an approval notification will be sent to the PI. Submissions via this route may be sent for full committee review at the discretion of the IBC Chair and BSO.

Kayla Geitzler, Moncton’s first anglophone Poet Laureate, and host of the Attic Owl Reading Series, will recite from her first book That Light Feeling Under Your Feet.
Jane Ledwell, Executive Director of the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women, will read from her book, Return of the Wild Goose.
Ali Ettarnichi, motivational speaker, international connector, and organizer of global summits, will share from his first book, Just A Cab Driver: My Journey from Behind the Wheel to Behind the Microphone.

Students are invited to apply to participate in one of four Big Idea Summits taking place during Reading Week 2022. Each summit will bring together a small group of undergraduate students to talk with local government and community members about big issues impacting our province and develop cases that can be used for the Public Service Commission's 2022 Policy Hackathon.
Summit topics will include healthcare and human resourcing, transit access and safety, the future of work, and gender-affirming healthcare. Students can learn more and apply to participate using the online application form. Application deadline: February 14, 11:59 pm, 2022. Seats are limited.

The global disruption to education caused by the COVD-19 pandemic is unprecedented with severe consequences for children around the world. The crisis brought education systems across the world to a halt, with school closures affecting more than 1.6 billion learners. While nearly every country in the world offered remote learning opportunities for students, the quality and reach of such initiatives varied greatly and were at best partial substitutes for in-person learning. Now, 22 months later, schools remain closed for millions of children and youth, and millions more are at risk of never returning to education at all. Closing schools caused significant learning losses, and further exacerbated biopsychosocial impacts on children and youth, particularly those who are already marginalized and underserved.
Our panelists will discuss the state of education around the world, and consider where we go from here. They’ll explore what can be done to shift from crisis to recovery, and beyond recovery. They’ll discuss what resilient and adaptable education systems look like, and how to build a global commitment to ensuring learning and well-being for all children are prioritized.
