Campus Notices

AVC currently has a male beagle named Roddy available for adoption. He is two years old, neutered, and vaccinated; a dental cleaning will be included with his adoption. Roddy is a silly puppy with a lot of energy and loves to run and play. He loves to play with other beagles and has not shown any signs of aggression. However, Roddy doesn’t always pick up on other dog’s social cues, and sometimes other dogs become agitated with his playfulness.

Roddy would thrive in a house with a family that is able to spend a lot of time training and exercising him. It is preferable that he is placed in a home where the owners are home most of the day. Single-pet and multi-pet households would be considered if it was the right fit.

If you are interested in learning more about Roddy, please contact Melissa Hamel at mhamel@upei.ca or 902-566-0938, or fill out the online adoption application at https://bit.ly/3Rc5XrK.

Ethics protocols that involve "more than minimal risk" must be reviewed by the full UPEI Research Ethics Board (REB). The next deadline for submitting these protocols is Friday, September 30, 2022, for review at the September meeting.

Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve "more than minimal risk"; renewals; and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received.

All research compliance applications, including Research Ethics Board application forms, must be submitted through the Researcher Portal. This online system is paired with electronic approvals to replace the hard-copy signatures process.

Information about the Researcher Portal, including instructions for using the site, is available at https://www.upei.ca/research-services/forms. Contact researchcompliance@upei.ca if you have any questions about accessing or using the Researcher Portal.

For more information about the REB review and approval process, please contact the Compliance Coordinator at researchcompliance@upei.ca.

The next deadline for submitting biosafety applications including new applications, renewals, and/or amendments is Friday, September 30, 2022. These applications will be reviewed at the October 20, 2022, meeting.

All research compliance applications, including biosafety application forms, must be submitted through the Researcher Portal. Information about the Researcher Portal, including instructions for using the site, is available at https://www.upei.ca/research-services/forms. Contact researchcompliance@upei.ca if you have any questions about accessing or using the Researcher Portal.

Please note that the IBC has instituted a new category of protocol amendment: biosafety permit minor amendment. This event form is included in the Researcher Portal. Minor amendments that are strictly limited to changes in personnel and/or funding can be submitted at any time but require up to a two-week review period. They are normally reviewed by the IBC chair or designate and the BSO or designate. If the amendment is approved, then an approval notification will be sent to the PI. Submissions via this route may be sent for full committee review at the discretion of the IBC chair and the BSO.

For more information about the IBC review and approval process, please contact the Compliance Coordinator at researchcompliance@upei.ca

TO BE RESCHEDULED

Pride/Swell+: Exploring Intergenerational Art & Activism with 2SLGBTQ+ community members in Atlantic Canada (Talk and Workshop)

Location: Education Learning Commons Memorial Hall 302

This talk and workshop is open to all UPEI Faculty, Graduate Students, Undergraduate Students and Staff.

Please RSVP to Dr. Lyndsay Moffatt  lemoffatt@upei.ca if you would like to participate!

Dr. Casey Burkholder (UNB) will give a brief talk and facilitate an art making workshop on Pride/Swell+, a physically distanced project with 50 2SLGBTQ+ youth from Atlantic Canada that explored community-building through art-activism and participatory archiving during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her talk will focus on the development of a mail-based approach to engaging in art production with 2SLGBTQ+ youth, and the co-curation of a participatory digital archive.

Workshop participants will be invited to interact with the Pride/Swell archive, which is made up of 12 art practices and prompts.

To demonstrate and invite active participation in this workshop, participants will partake in a gallery “walk about” of the Pride/Swell art (Mitchell, 2015, p. 141). Participants will be guided in creating collages (remixing, cutting, and pasting images and words to create a new image) in response to the participatory archive.

All necessary tools and materials to engage in the collage-making will be provided.

Dr. Burkholder is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of New Brunswick. Her work is grounded in feminist participatory visual research practices that highlight participants’ identities, ways of knowing, and ways of representing the world through visual approaches.

Some Hellish, the debut novel by Prince Edward Island writer Nicholas Herring, will be launched on Thursday, October 13, at 7:00 p.m. at The Gallery Coffee House and Bistro at 82 Great George Street in Charlottetown.

A Murray Harbour-based carpenter and fisherman, as well as a University of Toronto creative writing graduate, Herring has set his novel—heart-breaking, hilarious, and heartwarming—in the vividly portrayed fishing community of eastern PEI.

The launch is sponsored by the UPEI Faculty of Arts and Department of English. Admission is free.
