Centre for Health and Community Research (CHCR)
The Centre for Health and Community Research (CHCR) is located within the McDougall Faculty of Business. The Centre’s purpose is to advance research, education, and knowledge within the fields of health and bioscience. The Centre conducts studies and pilots new treatment options within the health fields, including the new Computer-Based Training for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy program that is currently being piloted in PEI and intended to assist with the treatment for mental health and addictions across Canada. The CHCR is also affiliated with the PEI Division of the Strategies for Patient Oriented Research. In this capacity, CHCR is conducting demonstration projects into the health care systems of PEI and has also built the Secure Island Data Repository (SIDR) on the UPEI campus. SIDR will securely house administration health data as well as valuable research-generated data from investigators on campus.
The CHCR supports the stream of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Biotechnology Management, which enforces the importance of this sector to the McDougall Faculty of Business. The Centre aims to integrate knowledge and progress in biotechnology and related sectors into research, education, and learning. It conducts research into the Prince Edward Island Bioscience sector’s development and sustainability and provides networking and partnering opportunities which add to UPEI’s, and the province’s capacity and capabilities in the Biotechnology Sector.
