AVC Lecture Theatre A

The Department of Pathology and Microbiology is interviewing a candidate for a tenure-track faculty position in Molecular Clinical Bacteriology.

Dr. Shivani Ojha is a board-certified microbiologist by the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists in Bacteriology and Mycology.  She obtained her DVM degree and Master of Veterinary Science in Veterinary Microbiology from the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner, India, and her PhD in Molecular Microbiology at the University of Guelph. She has experience in research on risk assessment and risk management of significant pathogens in ISO/IEC accredited laboratories. The use of alternative resources such as probiotics and bacteriophages to curb foodborne pathogens, E. coli O157:H7, was examined. To address the risk of necrotic enteritis in broiler chickens, vaccine development was pursued. In swine health, colonization factors of Actinobacillus suis were identified and models of A. suis infection were developed. A large part of the research has been in diagnostics on methods development to detect and source track the pathogen. Both genetic and serology-based diagnostic approaches were harnessed to detect pathogens, including Norovirus, Coxiella burnetii, E. coli non-O157 serotypes. She is currently teaching the VPM 4500 Diagnostic Services rotation (bacteriology and virology) to fourth-year students at AVC.
