Tropical storm watch in effect for PEI—Important things you need to know!

Posting Date(s)

Environment Canada has issued a tropical storm watch alert for PEI as Hurricane Teddy continues to make its way towards Atlantic Canada. Latest information from Environment Canada

Members of the UPEI community are reminded to ensure residence and office windows are closed as heavy rain and high winds are expected beginning Tuesday, September 22 through to Wednesday, September 23.

There is a strong possibility that the high winds may lead to either prolonged power outages or power surges so please turn off any equipment critical to operations prior to leaving campus on Tuesday. At home, you should also prepare for up to 72 hours without power and have bottled water, flashlights, extra batteries, non-perishable foods, and a battery-operated radio on hand. Ensure your vehicle has sufficient fuel and your handheld electronic devices are fully charged. Please refer to the PEI Public Safety Division website on how to be prepared for an emergency.

UPEI will issue updates when needed to @upei.ca emails and via UPEI SAFE, UPEI’s official safety app, which is available for download on the App Store or Google Play. Learn more about UPEI SAFE
