Flag half-masting notice: UPEI marks the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women

Posting Date(s)

December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women in Canada. Established in 1991 by the Parliament of Canada, this day marks the anniversary of the murders in 1989 of 14 young women at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal.

UPEI will observe the day by lowering the flags in front of Kelley Memorial Building to half-mast.

The PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women, as part of its PEI Purple Ribbon Campaign, will hold memorial services in both Charlottetown and Summerside, marking 30 years since the Montreal massacre. The theme of the campaign this year is, "SUPPORT SURVIVORS. Support the person ~ Involve the community ~ Right the World."

The Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering will also join with engineering schools across the country to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the shooting by hosting a special event at 5 pm.
