Fitness Centre Guidelines and Gym Etiquette

  • Sneakers required. No bare feet, sock feet, sandals, or Crocs permitted.
  • No bags, purses, coats, jackets, etc. in the fitness centre.   
  • Please re-rack weights and plates.
  • Weight collars must be used.
  • Powered chalk not permitted. Liquid chalk is permitted.
  • Do not slam weights, medicine balls, or barbells on the floor.
  • Crash pads must be used on platforms for deadlifts and when dropping weights.
  • No scented colognes or perfumes are permitted on campus as per UPEI’s Scent-Free Policy.
  • Food and drink are not permitted, except for liquids in a closed container. No cans or coffee cups.
  • Please clean the equipment after use.
  • Taking photos or video is not permitted. 
  • A valid UPEI and/or membership card is required when entering the fitness centre.
  • Using your card to grant access to others will result in the loss of your access and privileges.
  • Personal belongings can be stored in general locker rooms (main floor) or lockers second floor lobby. Lockers are day use only. Please bring your own lock.
  • Olympic lifts are not permitted.
  • Do not loiter with equipment. Please be courteous to others and use equipment in a timely manner.
  • No hanging out in the fitness centre without working out. It's not a lounge. Please come in and ready to work out. 
  • Bands and small equipment items can be signed out from the fitness centre desk but must stay in the fitness centre and be returned after use. Item(s) are checked out in system under your name.
  • There is ZERO TOLERANCE for foul language, spitting, or being disrespectful to staff, other members or patrons.
  • The minimum age of use is 14 years old. Users aged 14 must be accompanied and monitored by a parent/guardian who has a valid membership/day pass.
  • Only UPEI personal trainers under contract with UPEI Athletics and Recreation are permitted to conduct personal training in fitness centre.
