The mandate of the Experiential Learning Department is to expand the range of experiential and work-integrated learning (WIL) opportunities for UPEI students. The ultimate goal is to support students’ successful transition to career or graduate studies through the development of transferable skills. Working closely with Career Services, Co-operative Education and other members of the team, the primary responsibility of the Community and Industry Outreach Coordinator will be to develop, maintain, and collaborate with a network of community and industry partners to build institutional capacity and support the UPEI community in a range of WIL/Experiential Learning initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and support a network of community and industry partners to engage with university students and program participants in experiential learning
  • Maintain regular contact with employers/partners to provide support and assist in navigating any challenges
  • Assist in the design, development and delivery of employment-related workshops and programming
  • Coordinate a combination of small and large career and volunteer events to help connect organizations/employers with UPEI students
  • Establish and maintain a database of community partnerships and act as a resource for the WIL unit to support faculty
  • Facilitate student experiential and work-integrated placements for both academic and non-academic programs
  • Work one-on-one and in small groups to coach students on employment practices such as mock interviews, resume and cover letter reviews, job search support etc.
  • Provide resources and assist students by coaching, guiding, and finding best-fit placements
  • Assist in raising awareness of the benefits of experiential learning for students, employers, educators, and community, through outreach
  • Source and monitor grant-funded opportunities for students and assist in coordination and management of such projects
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A relevant undergraduate degree
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability in developing relationships
  • Demonstrated experience in a partnership development, recruitment or hiring environment with knowledge of employability skills
  • Demonstrated ability in employing EDIA (equity diversity inclusion and accessibility) when working with individuals and within a team to meet goals
  • Excellent communication skills to ensure clear expectations, roles, and responsibilities and to maintain positive relationships among and between internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills to listen and support UPEI students
  • A high level of professionalism and ability to quickly assess situations and make evidence-based judgements to benefit students and relationships with employer partners
  • Experience facilitating workshops, program delivery, and/or event planning would be considered an asset
  • Experience working in post-secondary education would be considered an asset
  • Lived experience that supports the department in identifying barriers and increasing inclusion, would be an asset
