Sessional Instructor - Faculty of Science - Winter 2025 *Amended*
The Master of Applied Health Services Research Program in the Faculty of Science at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for a Sessional Instructor during the Winter Session of 2025. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
Please note: the course offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
AHS 6008 – Advanced Qualitative Methods (3 Credits)
In this course, students will gain an understanding of the use of qualitative research methods in applied health research. Students' skills will be developed in the analysis of qualitative data, grant-proposal writing using qualitative data, and the critique of qualitative research. Topics explored include issues in qualitative approaches such as subjects/participants, ethical issues, representativeness, data trustworthiness, bias/perspective, researcher as an instrument, the designing of an analysis template, concurrent/non-current, and ethnography. Other topics explored include theoretical approaches to analysis, such as conflict analysis, feminist, deconstructionalist, thematic analysis, participatory action research, grounded theory, and case studies.
Online Lectures: 9:30-12:30 p.m. Wednesday
Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D in a health related field (Nutrition, Nursing, etc). Documented experience teaching online qualitative research courses at the graduate level is required.
Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster.
Salary: As per Sessional Instructor Stipends outlined in the Collective Agreement of the UPEI Faculty Association, Bargaining Unit #1
