Student Assistant - Mikmaw Language Project - Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies
$15.40 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
ASAP to September 30, 2024
We are seeking a student assistant to work with us to support the development of a Mi’kmaw Language text that will be an Open Education Resources used by students and community members.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The student assistant will work with the project lead to:
- Use a variety of software to modify and create digital content.
- Convert text for use in Pressbooks.
- Gather, review, and annotate published information (text/media) that could be useful for Mi’kmaw language learners.
- Interview Indigenous Elders and community members.
- Attend and capture content at Indigenous events that can be incorporated into the text.
- Able to work shifts during day, evening, and weekends as scheduled.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Prince Edward Island
- Able to work independently on assigned projects with attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills
- Professional attitude and demeanor
- Experience using image, audio, and/or video editing software
ASSETS:
- Preference given to students that have completed the Mi’kmaw Language course
- Knowledge of local Indigenous communities and culture
- Interviewing skills
- Comfortable with technology
- Knowledge of the Pressbooks system (https://pressbooks.org/)
