Sessional Instructor - Faculty of Science (Winter 2024)
The Faculty of Science at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for a Sessional Instructor during the Winter 2024 semester. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
Please note: the course offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
SCIE 3010 – Innovation & Entrepreneurship in Science
This course provides an overview on how to start and sustain a science-oriented company, with an emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation in biotechnology. Topics will include specific innovation cases, intellectual property and regulatory hurdles in science including biotechnology, business feasibility studies, financial planning, sources of capital, business structure, marketing, operational and human resource management. Students will be expected to identify and develop an idea which has the potential to be commercialized. The output of this research will be developed into a business idea to be aimed at potential investors, and participation in pitch competitions including the Panther Pitch will be encouraged.
Lectures: Wednesday 7:00pm to 9:50pm
Qualifications:
Applicants must hold an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in any field of science with relevant industrial or entrepreneurial experience.
Preference will be given to the qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster and full-time and term contract Faculty Members of the Academic unit.
Salary: As per Sessional Instructor Stipends outlined in the Collective Agreement of the UPEI Faculty Association, Bargaining Unit #1.
