The Department of Psychology at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors during the forthcoming Fall 2024 semester.

These positions are subject to final budgetary approval.

PSY-3110 Physiological Psychology 

This course focuses on the nervous system as the basis of all experience and behaviour. It examines how a biological perspective of the brain developed, how neuroanatomy defines brain function, how neurons transmit information, how body movement is controlled, and how touch, pain, sleep and arousal work. Three hours a week, two hours a week laboratory. 

PSY-3320 Forensic Psychology

This course will introduce various topics and theories related to forensic psychology. The course will explore different types of criminal offences, mental health issues, assessment tools, and legal and ethical issues in psychology and law. The focus of this course is to gain fundamental knowledge and understanding of forensic psychology and also to apply psychological knowledge, concepts, and research methodologies to understand human behavior in the legal contexts. This course will cover a range of topics, such as police behaviour, interrogation and confessions, eyewitness identification and testimony, malingering, mental illness in the context of criminal proceedings (e.g., fitness to stand trial, criminal responsibility), violence risk assessment, sentencing, and correctional and forensic rehabilitation.

Qualifications:

Successful applicants should hold a Graduate degree or a Doctoral degree in Psychology.
