The School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for sessional instructors during the forthcoming 2024-2025 academic year. These positions are subject to final budgetary approval.

Please note: the course offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

4830 VIDEO GAME PROGRAMMING PROJECT

In this course, students work as a group to develop a single design into a fully functioning video game. This course applies the project management skills learned in CS 4810 to the development of a professional quality video game based upon the students’ design.

Restricted to students enrolled in the Major in Computer Science with a Specialization in Video Game Programming.

PREREQUISITE: A minimum grade of 70% in CS 4360, 4650 and 4810

One lecture hour per week plus significant project time

2024 Fall Term Lecture Time: T 6:00 PM - 6:50 PM

2025 Winter Term Lecture Time: T 6:00 PM - 6:50 PM

Please note: This course is co-taught by two sessional instructors and one faculty member in the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences. It involves co-mentorship of an 8-month long video game development project. The School is looking for one design mentor and one technical mentor (preferably with a strong background in computer graphics). Mentorships are paid at 1/3 of a sessional stipend per term per mentor. A project management mentor from the School will also be part of the mentorship team.

Qualifications:

Successful applicants should hold a master’s degree in mathematics/computational sciences or a related field, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience in video game development. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research or industry practice related to video game development.

Preference will be given to the qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster and full-time and term contract Faculty Members of the Academic unit.
