The Asian Studies (AST) Program (https://www.upei.ca/programs/asian-studies), Faculty of Arts, UPEI invites applications for a sessional teaching position during the Fall 2024 semester. We are seeking a qualified candidate to teach the following Korean Studies (KS) course: 

 AST 3101: Modern Korean History (online)

 September 4–December 24, 2024 (expected enrolment 70–100)

Calendar course description

This course presents the intellectual, social, political, and economic history of modern Korea from the early twentieth century to the present day. It discusses modernization, the rise of modern ideologies such as nationalism, communism, the democracy, the Korean war, the transformation of Korean identity, urbanization, changing status and roles of women, and the religious landscape of today's Korea. 

Qualifications:

A doctoral (or master’s) degree with undergraduate and/or graduate training in Korean or East Asian Studies (history, civilization, society, culture, or politics). Applications with teaching experience in the same or related courses on these topics are preferred. Qualified candidates should be familiar with the traditions and contemporary developments of Korean history. Since this sessional course is externally funded by an international KS project grant, the recommended candidate is expected to contribute to project activities such as research or participation in Korean studies. 

This sessional position is also subject to final budgetary and administrative approval.
