PA Level 7 - Research Lab Computer Technician - Department of Psychology - Faculty of Arts (Grant Funded)
$33.65 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay, as per CUPE 1870 (Grant Funded)
ASAP to August 31, 2025 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements.)
The Research Lab Computer Technician will play a crucial role in supporting the Music Cognition lab's research and development activities. This position involves developing, deploying, and maintaining online research projects, performing statistical analyses, managing the lab's website and server infrastructure, and contributing to the overall success of lab operations. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled programmer with a background in data science or computer science, effective communication skills, and a keen eye for detail.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and deploy online research projects using R (Shiny) and AWS EC2
- Ability to support a custom online singing application in R (Shiny)
- Perform statistical analyses on research data using R
- Maintain and update the lab’s website using Drupal and PHP
- Debug and optimize research applications, ensuring high performance and reliability
- Monitor and manage the lab's AWS server infrastructure
- Assist with project planning, including defining objectives, deliverables, and timelines
- Present findings at conferences and actively contribute to lab discussions and meetings
- Manage and maintain lab equipment and inventory
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, or a related field
- Proficiency in R, PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Drupal
- Knowledge of Praat and pYIN, audio frequency analyzers
- Experience with AWS services, Git/GitHub, R Studio, and Qualtrics
- Strong skills in debugging, statistical analysis, and web development
- Effective communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently
- Experience presenting technical concepts or collaborating in a research environment is an asset
- Strong problem-solving and debugging abilities.
- Proficiency in database management and data visualization.
- Excellent understanding of responsive web design principles and web accessibility standards.
- Familiarity with version control systems and software development best practices.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Highly self-motivated with a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
