The Department of Health Management at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), located at 550 University Avenue in Charlottetown, PEI, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Aquatic Epidemiology.  The position will be at the Assistant Professor level, with rank and salary depending on qualifications and experience.  In addition to teaching epidemiology in the veterinary (DVM) and graduate programs, duties will include supervision of graduate students at the MSc and PhD levels.  As part of a collaborative team, the successful applicant will be expected to develop and maintain an innovative multi-disciplinary externally funded research program in quantitative epidemiology with a major focus on aquaculture. A substantial part of the research focus could involve methodological developments in relevant areas for application in aquatics, such as infectious disease modeling, molecular epidemiology, use of spatiotemporal data, and risk analysis.  Parts of the teaching and supervision involved in the position will also involve epidemiology in non-aquatic settings.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Applicants must hold a DVM degree or equivalent degree and a doctorate (PhD) degree in epidemiology, aquatic population medicine, or a related discipline.  Preference will be given to candidates with a record of peer-reviewed publications or other scholarly activity focusing on the epidemiology of infectious diseases in aquaculture. Experience with analysis of large epidemiological data sets addressing health and production outcomes of cultured aquatic (preferred) or terrestrial species is an asset.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, are required.

Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience. Full-time faculty members receive a comprehensive fringe benefits package, with benefit details provided at time of offer in accordance with the University’s collective agreement. This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.

The AVC is committed to teaching, research, and service, and is fully accredited by the CVMA, AVMA, and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.  The AVC is the regional veterinary college for Atlantic Canada. It is situated on Prince Edward Island, a tourist destination on Canada’s beautiful east coast. The AVC has more than 200 faculty and staff. Enrollment consists of ~260 DVM students and 60 graduate students. The AVC is home to the Centre for Veterinary Epidemiological Research (http://cver.upei.ca/), which has internationally recognized research programs in veterinary epidemiology and population medicine.
