Sessional Instructor - Department of Philosophy - Faculty of Arts (Fall 2025)
The Department of Philosophy at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for the position of Sessional Instructor for the Fall Semester 2025. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
PHIL 2090/3090 - Aesthetics
This course explores basic issues in aesthetics. What is art? Are aesthetic judgments objective or merely subjective matters of taste and feeling? Is it possible to have standards of criticism? Is art fictional and if so, can it be true? What is the place of art in human life? The definitions of art are as myriad as the varieties of art itself, and this course will explore some of these ideas through the philosophical notion of aesthetics.
Qualifications:
Successful applicants will have a minimum of a PhD in Philosophy and ideally possess prior experience in teaching aesthetics. Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI sessional roster for Philosophy and full-time and term contract Faculty Members of the Academic unit.
