The Department of Religious Studies invites applications for a sessional instructor position teaching RS 2610 Chinese Religion and Philosophy (course description below) lecturing in the evening (day TBD) Fall 2025 term. This position is subject to final budgetary approval. 

Please note: the course offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course. 

RS 2610 – Chinese Religion and Philosophy

This course is an introduction to Chinese religion and philosophy. It examines the so-called "Three Teachings" in China: Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. Most of the course deals with the basic philosophical concepts, moral values and religious beliefs of these major traditions. Attention is directed also to their impact on traditional China, as well as on other East Asian countries, including Japan and Korea. The course concludes by considering the contemporary situation of each tradition in response to recent economic, social and political changes.

Qualifications:
 

Candidates should possess an MA, PhD preferred, in Religious Studies, Philosophy or another closely matching discipline and have experience teaching in the area(s) of Chinese and/or East Asian Eastern religious and philosophical traditions.  

 

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Department of Religious Studies Sessional Roster and full-time and term contract Faculty Members of the Academic unit.
