Sessional Instructor - Department of History - Faculty of Arts (Fall 2025)
The Department of History and Classics at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a Sessional Instructor for the 2025 Fall Semester. We are seeking an instructor to teach the following course in the Department of History and Classics. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
Please note: the course offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
HIST 3100 – Tudor England, 1485-1603: Creation of a Nation (Online)
This course examines how the kings and queens of the Tudor dynasty transformed England from a crumbling, medieval monarchy into a powerful, centralized nation. It was a bloody process that saw thousands of English men and women lose their lives, but the result was an English nation endowed with a unique sense of identity, culture, and mission in the world. Topics include Henry VIII and the search for a legitimate heir; the Reformation in England; the evolution of queenship under Mary and Elizabeth; the ideological revolution and the problem of dissent; the changing structures of society; and the contrasting worlds of high and low culture.
PREREQUISITE: Second Year standing or above, or permission of the instructor
Qualifications:
Successful applicants will have a graduate degree or a doctoral degree specializing in any aspect of early modern British or European history. Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI sessional roster for History and Classics and full-time and term contract Faculty Members of the Academic unit.
