Pathways to Academic Success (PAS) Facilitator - Department of Student Affairs - Academic Support - Student Experience Hub

The Office of Academic Support Services at UPEI invites applications for the Pathways to Academic Success (PAS) Facilitator. This position supports student success, working closely with the general student population as well as students on Academic Probation. This position works to meet evolving student needs in academic advising and academic coaching for a complex and varied student population, researching and identifying best practices in student development and meeting with students to ensure an appreciation and understanding of current student issues. The Office of Academic Support Services seeks a candidate who is enthusiastic about helping to foster a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide academic coaching, meeting with students in person or online to develop effective study skills and strategies including, but not limited to, time management, effective reading and note taking, presentation skills, etc.
- Create academic support resource materials - handouts and electronic
- Create and deliver academic support presentations to campus groups and classes
- Academic advising. Helping with course selections, advising on faculty/major/minor choices, career paths and other academic choices including exiting and re-applying to the university for academic or personal reasons
- Interpret academic regulations and ensuring student is given correct information about academic pathway, and knowing when to refer to faculty
- Answer student, staff and faculty questions regarding academic regulations and understanding Academic Regulations pertaining to academic standing including Academic Probation, and Academic Suspension
- Assist students with academic appeals processes
- Make effective referrals to on campus resources including Accessibility and Counselling Services
- Establish positive relationships with students by being available, visible and approachable. Remaining alert to students who may be experiencing difficulties, including those who are not engaging with others or who are difficult to reach
- The ideal candidate will also be available to teach sections of the Student Success Program (SSP) on an additional contract
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree (BEd preferable). Master’s degree an asset. Two (2) years of experience working with students at the post-secondary level
- Knowledge of the student life cycle and understanding the importance of referrals to appropriate supports
- Experience developing, implementing, and delivering workshops and course work
- Familiarity with Post-Secondary student data systems (registration, enrollment, and scheduling) such as Ellucian would be an asset.
- Experience working in a diverse community
- Experience using online educational platforms is an asset
- Effective communication, time management, organizational, and leadership skills
- Proven ability to work effectively independently and with a team
