The UPEI Faculty of Science is composed of six departments and schools and a number of interdisciplinary programs.  Faculty members in these programs lead vigorous research programs with national and international impacts.  The Faculty has very active graduate programs, including Masters of Science programs in Molecular and Macromolecular Sciences (MMS), Environmental Sciences (ESC), Human Biology (HB) and Mathematical and Computational Sciences (MCS) as well as PhD programs in MMS and ESC, and a unique Masters in Applied Health Services Research which is hosted with three other regional Universities. 

We are currently seeking an individual for the position of the Associate Dean of Science, Graduate Studies and Research, who will assume overall leadership for the management and growth of our graduate programs and for advocacy and support for our research programs.  Working with the Faculty of Science Graduate Studies and Research Committees, the Associate Dean will take on the responsibilities of the Faculty-Level Graduate Studies Coordinator, as defined in the Roles and Responsibilities document approved by the UPEI Graduate Studies Advisory Committee (GSAC). 

Reporting to the Dean of Science, the Associate Dean of Science, Graduate Studies and Research, must be a tenured Faculty Member in the Faculty of Science, with a proven history of successful mentorship of graduate students during their academic career, and a demonstrated commitment to the success of graduate studies. They will also have a record of successful research endeavors. There is a preference for previous Graduate Studies Committee experience, however any interested candidates with relevant experience are encouraged to apply.

The Associate Dean must have exceptional communication skills and an open, transparent and collegial leadership style.  The Associate Dean must foster and advance a vision for Graduate Studies and Research that will embrace the diversity of programming, and a commitment to advocacy for research and graduate students.

Candidates for Associate Dean will also have a strong background and commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and to Indigenization and Reconciliation.  

The term of office of the Associate Dean shall be three years with potential second three year term following a successful review.  The estimated starting date is July 1, 2024. This position is subject to budget approval.
