MTS Level 9 - Medical Laboratories Coordinator - Faculty of Medicine
$77,145 to $84,760 per annum, as per CUPE 1870
The role of the Medical Laboratories Coordinator is to direct, organize and strategically coordinate all activities involved in delivery of the Memorial University curriculum for the medical laboratories within the UPEI Faculty of Medicine. This includes liaising with academic and clinical faculty and staff to ensure all laboratory curriculum is delivered in accordance with accreditation standards. This position performs resource organization and set-up for all laboratory sessions in both undergraduate and post-graduate medical programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct and organize the delivery of the undergraduate medical laboratory curriculum for the UPEI Faculty of Medicine
- Collaborate with academic and clinical faculty, and staff.
- Direct and set up resources for all laboratory sessions in both undergraduate and post-graduate medical programs. This includes equipment, consumables, specimens, models, and print and digital resources.
- Coordinate daily schedules within the medical laboratories for students, faculty, and staff, ensuring efficient use of laboratory space and resources.
- Manage inventory of laboratory materials, order supplies, and process invoices for payment.
- Ensure all health and safety policies and procedures are updated and implemented, including training and documentation of users of all laboratory and teaching spaces.
- Develop, write and implement laboratory specific standard operating procedures.
- Align and coordinate the laboratory curriculum with Memorial University’s laboratory schedules and resources to maintain equity and comparability.
- Work collaboratively with various units within both the UPEI and Memorial Faculties of Medicine, including staff, students, clinical and academic faculty, and standardized patients
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science in a relevant discipline
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a laboratory setting
- Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets and web searches are essential
- Thorough knowledge of laboratory safety including the handling of hazardous materials
- Experience with preparation of chemical reagents and solutions
- Experience with computer-based laboratory and medical equipment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to effectively work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to make high-level decisions and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, under tight timelines
- Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and time management abilities
