Associate Dean - School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences - Faculty of Science
Since its establishment in 2016, the UPEI School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, which provides an innovative suite of programs unique within Atlantic Canada, has experienced significant and sustained growth in student enrollments and research productivity. An internal Quality Assurance Review of the programs in 2021 highlighted this growth, and the need for resources and space to support the continued success of the programs.
We are currently seeking an individual for the position of the School’s Associate Dean, who will be the academic, administrative and community leader of the School, with duties as described in the Memoranda of Understanding on pages 158-162 of the UPEIFA Bargaining Unit #1 Collective Agreement.
Reporting to the Dean of Science and the Vice-President Academic & Research, the Associate Dean of Mathematical and Computational Sciences must be a tenured Faculty Member in SMCS, with demonstrated experience and aptitude in administration and the ability to mentor and enable innovative and ethical research and teaching excellence. They must have exceptional communication skills and an open, transparent and collegial leadership style. The Associate Dean must foster and advance a vision for the School that will embrace the diversity of programming, growth and development using a collaborative approach.
Candidates for Associate Dean will lead the School’s efforts to meet the University’s commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and to Indigenization and Reconciliation. They will embrace a student-centered approach, and be supportive of students in leadership roles.
The term of office of the Associate Dean shall be three years with potential second three year term following a successful review. The estimated starting date is July 1, 2024.
