Student Summer Room Attendants (Up tp 24 Positions) - Conference Services - Ancillary Services
$16.00 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
April 21 – September 6, 2025
The University of Prince Edward Island has a vibrant conference and accommodations operation during the summer months, and we would like you to be part of it! From May through August, we open our doors to thousands of visitors from all around the world. Our Residences turn into a successful hotel operation, which provides accommodations and services for a wide variety of conferences, tourists, and sporting groups. We also offer meeting space to various groups from on- and off-campus. We strive to provide the best customer service to our clients, while proudly representing UPEI, Charlottetown and Prince Edward Island. Summer Room Attendants are the heart of our operation, ensuring guest rooms are clean, comfortable, and well stocked for every stay.
We are looking for energetic, detail-oriented individuals to join our team as Summer Room Attendants. You will be part of a larger team that knows how to have fun, work hard, takes pride in their work, and provides great customer service. Up to 24 student positions will be available beginning in April and continuing through to early September.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Housekeeping Supervisor, the Summer Room Attendants will be responsible for:
Conduct deep cleaning of rooms at the start and end of the summer season.
Ensure the cleanliness of guest rooms, staff areas, and housekeeping cart while adhering to hotel standards, including but not limited to:
Making beds, changing sheets and towels
Cleaning washrooms including toilets, showers/bathtubs, sinks, mirrors, floors, bathroom fixtures and others as assigned
Vacuuming floors, draperies and upholstered furniture
Dusting of furniture and fixtures
Sort and remove waste and recycling from guest rooms, following established procedures
Ensure rooms are properly stocked with linens, toiletries, and other amenities
Perform laundry services, ensuring proper inventory management and organization of linens and supplies
Report all concerns related to room maintenance, health and safety, security or suspicious circumstances (including smells/sights and sound)
Provide assistance to guests and visitors, ensuring a welcoming experience
Collect and set aside any personal items left behind by guests, in accordance with hotel policies
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times while interacting with guests and colleagues
Collaborate with team members and take on additional tasks as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience in housekeeping or a related role within the tourism/hospitality industry is an asset
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including standing, sweeping, pushing/pulling carts, walking on uneven surfaces, and reaching both above and below shoulder level; able to lift up to 25 lbs
- Strong communication skills with the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently to understand verbal instructions and work orders
- Comfortable working with cleaning chemicals (WHMIS training will be provided)
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and some night shifts
- Valid First Aid certificate is not required, but considered an asset
- Bilingualism is not required, but considered an asset
