The Department of Human Resources is seeking an energetic and experienced individual for our Job Evaluation and Classification Officer position.  This position plays a key role in ensuring internal equity and consistency in UPEI’s job evaluation and classification processes. This role involves conducting job analyses, reviewing job descriptions, and determining appropriate job classifications and pay grades within our various staff employment groups.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Job Evaluation and Classification Officer position will work along side the Human Resources Officer in the administration of the job evaluation and classification program at UPEI to ensure the University’s staff positions have updated job fact sheets that accurately reflect the position requirements.

This successful applicant will co-ordinate job evaluation review and appeal requirements and will participate as an active member in evaluating all university staff positions. They will initiate and coordinate classification training programs for managers, employees and classification committees on the classification evaluation requirements to ensure regular training is conducted and managers and employees know how to write an accurate, concise job fact sheet.

This position will use established job evaluation methodologies and tools to ensure a fair, consistent evaluation practice is followed and is compliant with organizational collective agreements, policies and procedures.

The successful applicant will engage in jurisdictional scans, develop KPIs related to classification and participate in salary surveys and benchmarking activities to ensure competitive and equitable pay practices are followed.  They will stay current on industry trends and employ best practices in job evaluation and classification.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The position requires the successful applicant to have:

  • A combination of formal education and experience in a related field that aligns with the knowledge and responsibilities for this position, as described above.   
  • HR related experience in job evaluation, classification, or compensation analysis would be an asset.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking skills and excellent attention to detail 
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge and/or experience applying principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion in the job evaluation processes would be considered an asset.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in computerized spreadsheets and database software.
