Student Research Assistant - Department of Environmental Studies - Faculty of Science
$17.60 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
March 3 – August 1, 2025
Dr. Nicholas Mercer, Environmental Studies, is seeking applications for a student research assistant to help with the development and implementation of a qualitative research project which compares principles of ‘community (or decentralized) energy systems’ to ‘active learning’ teaching philosophies and strategies. The student will contribute to all phases of the study including research design, data collection, analysis implementation, and reporting of results.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help to develop a research ethics application for research involving human participation
- Help to expand and conduct a conceptual literature review on ‘community energy’ and ‘active learning’
- Help to plan and implement logistics for public workshops on the aforementioned topics
- Help with data transcription, qualitative analysis, and writing or reporting of results
- Help in developing presentation materials
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a current UPEI student with preference given to third or fourth year UPEI Bachelor of Environmental Studies students. Students graduating in May 2025 are also eligible.
- Excellent knowledge of environmental studies and interest in sustainable energy systems
- Excellent analysis and writing skills
- Ability to work independently
- Attention to detail
- Excellent computer skills, knowledge of data transcription or thematic analyses software are an asset.
