Business Analyst - Information Technology Systems and Services
$86,817 to $96,259 per annum, prorated to time and term
As soon as possible until April 2026 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding, and departmental requirements)
Business Analysts provide ongoing business analysis in support of ITSS strategic objectives. This position will work collaboratively with internal and external individuals to implement and enhance the university's systems and related processes by analyzing requirements; designing & reviewing processes; and recommending system-based solutions and/or process changes.
Initially working as part of the Faculty of Medicine Technology Integration Team, the Business Analyst will contribute to the development of the student experience, establishment of inter departmental processes, continuity of technology-based services between UPEI and Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (MUN), and identification of opportunities and solutions for other health related programs at UPEI such as Nursing, Doctor of Psychology, Paramedicine, and Veterinary Medicine.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitating and participating in meetings with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business, financial, and operations requirements and systems goals
- Identifying and charting existing business processes to define current business activities for the development of procedures and models to effect continuous improvement
- Meeting milestone dates for major task completion
- Liaising with project implementation teams and operational teams on an ongoing basis
- Collaborating in the planning and adoption/deployment of solutions and processes
- Reviewing and working with relevant confidential and sensitive data
- Taking inventory of system related documents, reports, policies etc.
- Developing prototype procedures for the purpose of enhancing business processes, operations, and information process flow
- Creating process maps, specifications diagrams, and charts reflecting operating procedures
- Identifying and establishing scope and parameters of process analysis to define impact, outcome criteria, and measure-taking actions
- Creation of training materials as required
- Communicating process changes, enhancements, and modifications – verbally or through written documentation – to management, peers, staff, and other employees so that issues and solutions are understood
- Be an organizational change management champion
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
- University degree in the field of business administration, management information systems, or computer science and 5 years related work experience. An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered
- Experience with business and technical requirements gathering & analysis, business process modeling/mapping, methodology development, and data modelling
- Experience working with highly confidential materials
- Experience with the implementation of software and / or hardware solutions, systems, or products
- Experience working at a post-secondary educational institution and/or health care environment would be considered an asset
- A business analysis or project management certification would be considered an asset

Work Conditions
- Minimal physical demands, typical of a position operating within an office environment; periods of extensive sitting and concentrated use of visual senses. Occasional extended times of standing and walking during campus events
- Intermittent work outside the normal operating hours of the Department may be required
- Some exposure to disagreeable conditions typical of a position exposed to stress and pressure associated with organizational change
