The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in Winter 2025. The offering of the courses is conditional pending final enrolment numbers. All positions are subject to final budgetary and administrative approval. 

Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

ED-4420-2  Adolescent Social & Emotional Health 

This course will explore the topic of social emotional health of adolescent learners in the contemporary contexts of family, peers, school, work, and the media. Mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, addiction, and the teaching of social emotional learning strategies will be emphasized.

This course is offered to students in the Intermediate/Senior cohort of the Bachelor of Education program on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30pm – 3:20pm, January 6 to February 7, 2025.

ED-4972 Practicum 2 (2 sections)

Students will complete a 10 week teaching placement with the guidance of a Faculty practicum advisor and a host mentor. Students will further develop planning and teaching effective lessons, themes and unit plans, personal classroom management skills, and assessment.

This course primarily involves in-school supervision of pre-service teachers, as well as 3-4 meetings with groups of students during the semester.  This course is offered February 10 to May 2, 2025.

ED-6260-22  Technology: Leadership in Learning

This course provides an opportunity for students to examine and critique current research trends in information and communication technology in education. Leadership models for the implementation of technology plans are studied and evaluated. A major portion of work for this course takes place in an online learning environment.

This course is taught online from January 6 to April 4, 2025.  Section 28 is taught online to students in our MEd Focus on 21st Century Teaching & Learning (Online). 

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates for courses up to the 6000 level will have a Masters of Education or equivalent degree.  Candidates at the 7000 level must have completed a doctoral degree in Education.  Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system.  For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research or practice related to the course content. 

Qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Faculty of Education’s Sessional Roster and the Faculty’s full-time and term contract faculty members will be given priority.
