Reporting to the CIO, the Director, IT Operations is an integral member of the University’s IT team who supports the academic mission and goals of the University through the strategic direction, leadership and planning of IT operations.  The Director is responsible for the efficient and effective operations and maintenance of University IT systems and services including service desk, audio visual, deskside/lab/classroom support, end user training, IT procurement and financial management, enterprise applications, network and infrastructure. The Director will play a key role in fostering an equitable, diverse and inclusive work environment by integrating principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) into all aspects of IT Operations Management.

The position champions the development, implementation, delivery, and support of IT Operations to UPEI’s Strategy. The Director is responsible for developing and maintaining, delivering the IT Operations Strategic Roadmap and associated operational plan, ensuring IT develops and executes long-term IT strategies aligned with UPEI’s academic mission and organizational goals and focused on the principal purpose of exceptional stakeholder experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director's responsibilities encompass overseeing daily IT operations to ensure measurable improvement and optimal performance. This role includes leading, mentoring, developing, and managing the IT operations team.

The Director will manage the departmental operating budget, procurement, and vendor management. They will develop the IT budget and provide oversight on the financial management of the department, fostering positive relationships with campus stakeholders. Additionally, they will evaluate and recommend improvements to IT systems and services, as well as operational efficiencies.

Exemplary leadership is crucial, demonstrating commitment, integrity, and professionalism in all actions. The Director will provide regular reports on IT operations' performance, issues, and improvements to senior management. Creating a culture of internal communication within the departmental team and establishing feedback loops as part of a culture of listening is also essential.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree required. Master’s degree is considered an asset
  • Minimum of seven years of senior leadership experience in Information Technology, preferably in a post-secondary or other large public sector environment
  • Professional related certifications are considered an asset
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale IT operations and budgets
  • Proven experience to plan, coordinate and control all aspects of IT operations activities
  • Must be capable of working independently, take initiative and follow-through on assignments with minimal direction
  • Strong knowledge of IT procurement, technology evaluation and associated documentation\
  • Demonstrated commitment to EDI principles
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
