Student Senior Residence Life Advisors (Up to 5 Positions) - Ancillary Services
Salary is equivalent to the cost of a single unit in PAC, plus an additional $3750.00. Paid bi-weekly and is a taxable benefit.
Ancillary Services is looking for up to 5 Senior Residence Life Advisors (SRLAs) for the 2025-2026 Academic Year. SRLAs act as team leaders, peer-supporters, advisors, programmers and event planners, administrators, and educators to encourage community building throughout the residence environment. SRLAs must work together with their fellow students, department staff, facilities management, security services, food services, and other university members to help create an educational environment conducive to both living and learning. Once chosen, the SRLAs are provided with additional training and support services, which enhance their effectiveness in their job responsibilities.
Please note: SRLAs are required to attend training starting August 15th, 2025, and must remain in residence at least 48 hours after the end of exams (subject to change at the discretion of Residence Management). They are also required to return from holiday break at least 48 hours prior to the regular check-in for residence students.
You are applying for the position of SRLA and not the position of SRLA within a certain building. The hiring committee extends offers based on suitability and staffing requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Residence Leadership:
- The SRLA position includes supervising, programming, disciplinary, and administrative responsibilities
- SRLAs demonstrate leadership, maturity, dependability, and involvement in their residence community, as well as sensitivity and concern for other residents. They must be committed to their own personal growth, taking care to budget personal time for study, work, relaxation, and continuous learning. SRLAs must have a commitment which extends beyond specific job responsibilities
- SRLAs are a positive role model for RLAs and students, specifically with regards to academics, personal wellness, conduct, and community behaviour expectations
- SRLAs develop relationships with residents to ensure approachability, resourcefulness, and to foster a cohesive community
- SRLAs maintain a high level of accessibility and visibility in the residence community
Residence Safety:
- SRLAs are to be on-duty and on-call in rotation with the other SRLAs and respond to emergencies that occur within Residence
- While on-duty and on-call, SRLAs must not be under the influence of intoxicating substances for the whole duration of their scheduled period. During this time, SRLAs assist RLAs with rounds and desk duty when needed
- During on-call rotations, SRLAs must be readily available for duty hours (8pm-8am) and they must remain on campus
- SRLAs aid in upholding safety by also being called upon to assist the RLAs through mediations processes and referrals as needed
RLA Supervision, Support, and Mentorship:
- SRLAs lead an RLA team and oversee their Residence Life work schedules. This includes being supportive of the RLA team and readily available to assist and talk through residence issues as they arise
- SRLAs are to check-in with their RLAs and maintain a log of work accomplished by members of their team
- SRLAs help in the training, team building, and maintenance of positive team dynamics for the RLAs
- SRLAs work with the Residence Life Management team to supervise the work of the RLAs and to make assessments and evaluations of the RLAs. This includes immediate communication concerning behaviour or job performance concerns
- Meet on a regular basis as both a team and individually with Residence Management
- Have a good understanding of campus resources and services as well as a full understanding of residence and university guidelines and being a source of information for students and the RLA team
Community Engagement:
- SRLAs will help with planning, advertising and running active events for residents in their building. SRLAs will also collaborate with other SRLAs in large scale event planning and delivery
Residence Operations:
- Being familiar with residence related software, including eRezLife.
- Completing room assessments, assisting with public relations, ensuring maintenance is complete, keeping residents informed, acting as supervisors for safety exercises, working as liaisons, and assisting with other administrative duties as required
- Participating in move in and move out for each semester. This can include checking in students, showing students to their rooms, traffic control, supporting parents, guardians, and family members with move in questions, room checks, and more
- SRLA will file Incident Reports and Student of Concern Reports under circumstances as covered in training
- SRLAs must maintain confidentiality. This includes information from any student documents, any incidents that may transpire, any sign in sheet information, etc
- Attending and participating in professional development sessions and all staff meetings. In addition to checking and, if needed, responding to communications (emails or chats) daily for information and updates
- Assisting with the Residence Social Media channels
- SRLAs may be scheduled to work in the office at certain times
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI):
- SRLAs will collaborate with the larger University EDI teams to align residence programming and education with the larger organizational goals
- SRLAs will work to understand the complexity of leading and educating in a diverse community and action that learning in appropriate ways
- SRLAs will work with members of the residence community to highlight areas of opportunity and concern as this relates to EDI and accessibility
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a current full-time UPEI student
- Has been an RLA for a minimum of one (1) full academic year at UPEI.
- Satisfactory academic standing (minimum 65% average). (Each applicant must submit a copy of their unofficial degree audit with the application package. This information is kept in confidence by the Selection Committee)
- Good rapport with fellow residence students, and the ability to serve as a positive role model
- Sound knowledge of UPEI, campus services, residence life program, and different student activities
- Available to participate in training starting August 15th, 2025
- Has valid Standard First-Aid certificate or is willing to obtain it prior to August 15th, 2025
