Student Research Assistant - Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering
$16.00 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
February 1 – December 31, 2025
The Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) invites applications for an Undergraduate Student Research Assistant to support a project focused on the design and development of renewable energy technologies. This role emphasizes SolidWorks modeling and simulation, as well as wind energy technologies optimization, providing a hands-on opportunity for students to contribute to impactful renewable energy research.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop 3D models of mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks
- Conduct simulations in SolidWorks to analyze mechanical performance, including stress, deformation, and motion studies
- Collaborate with the research team to refine designs based on simulation results
- Assist in renewable energy planning tasks, including feasibility studies and system layout optimization
- Support the analysis of data to optimize system performance
- Prepare technical documentation and drawings for fabrication
- Participate in team discussions to integrate optimization insights into design work
- Present findings and progress during team meetings and contribute to reports
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a current UPEI student with preference given to students in an undergraduate program in Sustainable Design Engineering or a related field
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and simulation is essential
- Basic knowledge of renewable energy systems and optimization techniques
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in design work
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and meet project deadlines
- Familiarity with energy planning tools or software is a plus but not required
