Acknowledging that UPEI is located on the unceded land of the Mi’kmaq Nation, of the Wabanaki Confederacy, in the traditional district of Epekwitk, the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Prince Edward Island, welcomes applications from exceptional candidates for the following clinical nursing instructor opportunity:

One (1) permanent full-time Clinical Nursing Instructor (Clinical and International Placement Coordinator). This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.

Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

General Description:

As an integral member of the clinical teaching team, the Clinical and International Placement Coordinator plays a key leadership role in coordinating and facilitating clinical placements for 300+ students each year in both the 2-year and 4-year nursing programs. In this role, the Clinical and International Placement Coordinator works closely with Faculty to secure clinical placements that support students to meet clinical course objectives. The Clinical and International Placement Coordinator also works with multiple internal and external groups/agencies to secure a variety of clinical placements in both the private and public sector and in community and hospital settings locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. 

The Clinical and International Placement Coordinator also participates in a Faculty of Nursing governance committees where they support the delivery of a cohesive clinical curriculum by offering their knowledge and expertise related to clinical practice, clinical education, and clinical placements. The Clinical and International Placement Coordinator also works with multiple internal and external stakeholders and applies their expertise in experiential education to support the direction and development of a cohesive curriculum that ensures students meet entry to practice competencies for Registered Nurses. 

The Clinical and International Placement Coordinator works collaboratively with the UPEI Office of Study Abroad & International Partnerships to develop, plan, and coordinate international clinical placements for students in the Nursing program.

The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Prince Edward Island offers the only undergraduate and graduate programs for the nursing profession in the province. The Faculty of Nursing plays a key role in nursing education to support the local and national health system by developing nurse leaders grounded in the philosophy of Primary Health Care. 

In addition to providing evidence-informed education, we strongly believe in providing opportunities for all faculty, staff and students to participate in research and scholarship. Nursing education researchers study how students best learn nursing skills and investigate diverse topics such as health outcomes and improvements to the quality of healthcare services. 

Nursing is a dynamic profession requiring critical and reflective thinking based on science and human perspectives. There is a need to reflect and embed within the curriculum and pedagogy new ways of thinking and being to reflect the changing health system and the importance of interprofessional learning and collaboration, diversity, and inclusivity. In addition, we honour and appropriately respond to the Calls to Action of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission

including fostering reflection related to decolonization and Indigenization to support recognition.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have an earned Master of Nursing degree (MScN or MN) and have at least 5 years of full-time clinical experience as a clinical nursing instructor. 

Experience in clinical placement coordination and/or experiential learning is required. 

Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel, is required.

Knowledge of Learning Management Systems would be considered an asset.

Experience with coordinating international student placements would be considered an asset. 

The Canadian Nurse Educators Institute (CNEI) Clinical Instructor Certificate course would be an asset. 

Hours:            Full time - 37.5 hours per week

Salary: $52.54 per hour in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the University of Prince Edward Island Board of Governors and The University of Prince Edward Island Faculty Association Bargaining Unit #1.
