"UPEI's BBA program is nothing short of exceptional."
What brought you to UPEI? Why did you choose to study here?
My roots trace back to the bustling city of Karachi, Pakistan, where I spent my early childhood. However, my upbringing took me on a unique adventure through the Maldives, Malaysia, and the UAE. My journey has been a captivating blend of diverse cultures and unforgettable experiences.
My educational journey commenced at Canadian University Dubai, and I was attracted by the prospect of transferring to top Canadian universities. Among the array of transfer choices, UPEI stood out to me. The meticulously-designed accounting specialization at UPEI perfectly aligns with my career aspirations. Not only does it fulfil all CPA prerequisites, but it also provides a comprehensive preparation for the challenging CPA journey. Choosing UPEI unlocks a path paved with precision for my success. Additionally, I am part of the UPEI Co-op Education program. It's more than just obtaining a degree; it's a journey enriched with hands-on experience and a dedicated focus on the skills that have prepared me for the professional world.
What do you find unique and interesting about your program?
What sets our program apart and captivates me is the extraordinary Business Case Competition course at UPEI. It's an excellent opportunity for students to participate in regional, national, and international competitions held at diverse locations, all with fully-funded trips. This course catalyses honing crucial skills in business analytics, real-world problem solving, and dynamic presentation abilities. Taking part in prestigious events like the Atlantic Schools of Business Case Competition, the Alberta International Business Case Competition, and the Technology University Dublin Competition has been a thrilling highlight of my academic journey.
What kinds of support have you received during your time here from UPEI students, staff, and faculty members?
Throughout my journey, my professors have demonstrated exceptional expertise and a genuine commitment to student success. They are always there to guide with an enthusiasm that truly enriches the learning experience. The UPEI Co-op team has been an incredible ally, providing strong support to help me reach my career goals and secure meaningful internships.
What kinds of opportunities have you experienced because you're studying at UPEI, or because of the Island location?
Joining the UPEI co-op program marked a turning point in my academic journey. By my third year, I had secured two full-time accounting job offers from esteemed companies in PEI. One of my internships was with COWS Inc., where I had the opportunity to participate in their marketing photoshoot. It has been fascinating to see my pictures displayed at COWS stores. Being a part of this endeavour has been a truly enjoyable and memorable experience that I wouldn't have encountered anywhere else in Canada.
