"Returning to UPEI for my master’s degree felt like coming home."
What brought you to UPEI? Why did you choose to study here?
I’m proud to have a mixed heritage, being Egyptian and Nigerian. My roots have given me a global perspective that has shaped my personal and professional journey.
My journey with UPEI began during my undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering in the Cairo Campus. I’m currently pursuing the Master of Business Administration in Global Leadership program at UPEI, and I’m in the first year of the two-year plan. Returning to UPEI for my master’s degree felt like coming home. I was eager to experience the main campus in Canada, immerse myself in its supportive culture, and benefit from its reputation for exceptional education.

This program is uniquely designed for today’s globalized world, where leadership transcends borders. What excites me most is how traditional MBA courses are consistently framed in a global context, which is incredibly relevant for leaders in any field. My professional experience has taken me to various parts of the world, and this program equips me to work even more effectively with diverse teams and global challenges.

What kinds of support have you received during your time here from UPEI students, staff, and faculty?
UPEI has supported me in countless ways since the day I arrived. As an alumnus, I was fortunate to receive the W. Chester S. McLure Memorial Fellowship grant, which provided a strong financial start for my MBA program. Professors have been incredibly supportive, connecting me with industries that align with my career aspirations. I’ve also found a sense of belonging through the vibrant student communities from around the world.
What opportunities have you experienced because you’re studying at UPEI or because of the Island location?
One standout opportunity has been working as a graduate lab instructor in the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering, which has allowed me to stay connected with my undergraduate roots while building new industry relationships. What’s unique about UPEI and Prince Edward Island, in your experience?
One of the most remarkable things about Prince Edward Island is the peaceful and welcoming environment created by its people. From the moment I arrived, I was embraced by a community that genuinely cares about one another. The Islanders are warm, friendly, and always willing to lend a hand, making it easy to feel at home. This sense of belonging and support has been invaluable during my studies, providing not only a comfortable place to focus on my academic and professional goals but also an opportunity to build meaningful connections. The Island’s hospitality truly sets it apart, making it a special place to live, study, and grow. Summers and springs are stunning, with plenty of activities to enjoy, while the winters, though cold, are filled with university-organized events to keep students engaged. The Island’s charm lies in its vibrancy and atmosphere, which makes it feel like home away from home.
