Dr. Josh MacFadyen, Canada Research Chair in Geospatial Humanities at UPEI, has launched an interactive digital story map of historical transportation in Charlottetown, covering the days of human- and horse-powered transportation to the coming of the automobile.

| Athletics

UPEI will receive $300,000 through ACOA's Canada Community Revitalization Fund to update facilities in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre for the 2023 Canada Winter Games. The funding is one of two revitalization projects, totalling $1.3 million, announced by the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister Responsible for ACOA, on August 5 at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. The following is a news release issued by ACOA after the announcement:

The campus community was advised today that UPEI President and Vice-Chancellor Greg Keefe has written a letter to the Hon. Bloyce Thompson, Minister of Economic Growth and Tourism, in response to the UPEI Faculty Association filing for conciliation.

In a message to the UPEI community, President Keefe encouraged everyone to participate in Emancipation Day activities on PEI and renew their commitment to learning, reflection, and action.

UPEI faculty and staff members have received grants ranging from $2,000 to $6,000 from the open education resource development program at UPEI.

In a campus message, President Keefe expressed condolences on behalf of the University to the family, friends, colleagues, and students of Dr. Benet Davetian, associate professor of Sociology, who passed away on June 25, 2022.

UPEI Women’s Basketball is bringing back a fan-favourite player. Guard Karla Yepez will rejoin the Panthers this fall after two years away from U SPORTS competition, hoping to recapture the magic of the team’s successful 2019–20 season.
