The Honourable Catherine Callbeck reappointed as UPEI Chancellor for one-year term

The following message was distributed on July 21, 2022, on behalf of the Office of the President. 

Dear Members of the Campus Community,

The Honourable Catherine Callbeck was installed as UPEI’s ninth Chancellor on September 29, 2018, with a term ending June 30, 2022. The Chancellor has been an incredible champion for the University for the past four years. Her ability to connect with students and other members of the UPEI and broader community is an inspiration.

Unfortunately, the Chancellor is not able to consider a full second term, but I am extremely grateful that she has agreed to serve in her role for an additional year to allow us time to plan the selection process for her replacement.

As per the University Act, I serve as chair of the Electoral Board for the Chancellor, which is made up of 12 representatives appointed from the Senate and 12 members from the Board of Governors. The Electoral Board unanimously supported the reappointment of the Honourable Catherine Callbeck as the UPEI Chancellor for a one-year term ending on June 30, 2023.

I thank the members of the Electoral Board for their time and valuable feedback during this important process, and I extend my deepest gratitude to Chancellor Callbeck for her tireless contributions to the University. I look forward to continuing to work with her over the next year to advance the priorities of UPEI as part of a wonderful community that aims to empower students to reach their full potential.
